1stDibs is a vetted, application-only marketplace. Sellers pay a monthly subscription plus a commission on each sale. 1stDibs does not publish one rate. Its filings put commission at 5%–50% of the item price, depending on category, price and plan, plus a processing fee of about 3% of what the buyer pays.
Plans trade off a higher monthly fee for a lower commission, or a lower monthly fee for a higher commission. In 2024 1stDibs dropped the option with no monthly fee. This calculator spreads your plan fee across your monthly sales. There is no commission on shipping, but the ~3% processing fee is worked out on the buyer's total, shipping included. The 16% commission default is only a starting point calculated from 1stDibs' FY2025 marketplace figures, not a published 1stDibs rate.
This calculator does not model sponsored or promoted listing spend, offline-sales programmes, returns, sales tax or VAT, or currency conversion. 1stDibs says commission and, in some cases, processing fees are refunded on returns. No caps or minimums are modelled because 1stDibs publishes none. The processing calculation includes buyer-paid shipping, including 1stDibs-arranged shipping, as the conservative reading of “buyer's total payment”. 1stDibs may also apply the processing fee to tax collected; confirm this and your exact rates on a seller statement.
It varies. 1stDibs says its commission ranges from 5% to 50% of the sale price, depending on the item's category and price, your membership plan and your business type. On top of that there is a processing fee of about 3% of the buyer's total payment. Use the rate from your 1stDibs rate card.
Yes. Sellers choose a subscription plan: "a low monthly subscription fee and a higher per-sale commission rate or a plan with a higher monthly subscription fee and a lower per-sale commission rate." 1stDibs does not publish plan prices, and in 2024 it discontinued the plan with no monthly fee.
1stDibs measures commission on GMV, which it defines as excluding shipping and US sales tax, so commission applies to the item price. The ~3% processing fee is based on the buyer's total payment, which includes shipping. When 1stDibs arranges shipping, it passes the direct cost to the buyer with no markup.
No. Only vetted professional sellers can. You apply with at least two references, and 1stDibs' in-house experts review your inventory, reputation and service before approval.
According to 1stDibs, if you accept a return or refund for an on-platform purchase, the commission is refunded, and in some cases the processing fee is refunded too.
