How Ruby Lane fees work

Ruby Lane charges no setup fee and no listing fee. There is a $45 monthly maintenance fee for unlimited items, plus a tiered service fee on each item sold: 9.9% up to $2,500, 5% from $2,500 to $7,500, and 2.5% above that.

Payments
PayPal processing comes on top

Shops must use a PayPal Business account. Ruby Lane takes its service fee when the buyer pays through PayPal, and PayPal charges its own processing fee. The default US PayPal Checkout rate is 3.49% + $0.49 and can be edited above. The $45 monthly fee is not a per-sale fee; this calculator can spread it across your monthly sales.

Notes
What is not included

This calculator does not model the legacy $54-a-month plan with a 6.7% service fee capped at $250 for eligible shops opened before 1 July 2021, Sponsored Ads pay-per-click charges, hosted-event fees, or sales tax. Ruby Lane collects sales tax and passes it on, so it is not seller income.

FAQ
Ruby Lane fee questions answered
How much does Ruby Lane take when you sell?

A tiered service fee of 9.9% on the sale up to $2,500 per item, 5% on the part from $2,500 to $7,500, and 2.5% above $7,500. PayPal's processing fee comes on top. A $100 sale paid by PayPal leaves $86.12.

Does Ruby Lane charge a monthly fee?

Yes. The maintenance fee is $45 a month for unlimited items. It is charged on the 1st and prorated for shops that open or close mid-month. Setup and listing are free.

How does the tiered fee work on expensive items?

The fee is worked out on each item. On a $10,000 item it is $247.50 + $250.00 + $62.50 = $560, or 5.6%, which is Ruby Lane's own example.

Do I pay PayPal fees on Ruby Lane?

Yes, when the buyer pays with PayPal. Shops need a PayPal Business account, and PayPal charges its standard rate (3.49% + $0.49 for US PayPal Checkout) on what the buyer pays. Checks and money orders have no processor fee. Ruby Lane then takes its fee from your shop balance.

What about the old $54 plan and 6.7% fee?

That legacy plan applies only to shops opened before 1 July 2021 that have not switched. All new shops pay the current $45 + tiered 9.9% plan.
